HOW TO TEST

Listen first. React second.

This online auditory reaction time test measures the delay between the sound cue and your response. Complete five valid trials to see your average.

  1. 01

    Enable the cue

Use the sound button once so your browser can play audio. Keep the volume comfortable.

  2. 02

    Wait without guessing

Each cue arrives after a random delay. Pressing early is recorded as a false start.

  3. 03

    Respond to the sound

Press Space, click, or tap as soon as you hear the beep. Five valid attempts complete the test.

ABOUT YOUR RESULT

Your device is part of the measurement.

A sound reaction test includes more than your response: the browser, audio hardware, headphones, and input device can all add delay. Compare results on the same setup for the most useful personal benchmark.

Wired headphones or built-in speakers usually give more consistent timing. Bluetooth audio can add noticeable and variable latency, so changing headphones may change your score even when your reaction is the same.

QUESTIONS

Auditory reaction test FAQ

What does this auditory reaction time test measure?

It measures the time from the sound cue starting in the browser to your keyboard, mouse, or touch response. The result includes device latency, so treat it as a practical browser test rather than a clinical measurement.

Why does the sound reaction test use five trials?

A single attempt can be unusually fast or slow. Five valid trials provide an average while keeping the test short enough to repeat.

Should I use speakers or headphones for the audio reaction test?

Either works. For comparisons, use the same device each time. Wired headphones or built-in speakers are generally more consistent than Bluetooth audio.

Why was my attempt marked as a false start?

You responded before the cue played. False starts do not count toward your five valid trials; select Try Again and wait for the beep.
